The History...

The club was formed towards the end of 1944.  A number of Gentlemen from the Banbridge area decided to hold a meeting with a view to forming a cycling club, to cater for cycling in our local area.  The club was formed and became known as Banbridge Cycling Club.  In those early days it was felt that the main interest should be centered on touring and leisure.  On the 23rd January 1945 a third meeting was held and eleven members were present, Jack Carson, Dick Carson, Bryan Doyle, Peter Doyle, Joseph Gibson, Bertie Heathwood, Charles McCourt, Jim McGorrion, Drew Preston, Pat Savage and John Walker.

Early club meetings are believed to have been held in the Church Street Primary School.  The primary school became known as Edenderry Primary School and moved to a new premises on the Lurgan Road, adjacent to the Banbridge Academy.  About this time meetings were also held in a cafe belonging to Mr A Fusco in Newry Street.  A link from those early days still remains today, in fact the trophy known as the Fusco Cup is competed for each season by club members.

Premises belonging to Mrs Aulds in Newry Street were then used by the members for club meetings and from February 1945 the meetings were held in premises belonging to Banbridge Amateur Boxing Club.  Club records show that meetings were held each week until the club became established
